Well, the 'Halloween' Horror Special finally went again (!) and the winners can be found here. Thanks to Paul from Arcane Projects for the great T-shirts. Check out their website for more cool designs.

We'll be back at The Boogaloo for our final 2010 quiz on Wednesday December 3rd. In addition to a few Christmas-inspired rounds, we'll be looking back at the last year of cinema. Hope to see you all there.

2nd November 2010

You've waited patiently since the 8th of September for the next You're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat so I'm sure you won't mind waiting a little longer...

As there's a Tube strike and Highgate station will remain closed tomorrow we are rescheduling the 'Halloween' Horror Special for next week: Wednesday 10th November.

We hope to see you there!

12th September 2010

Wow, what a fantastic crowd last Wednesday for our annual 80s movie quiz. A record 35 teams and the highest turnout in our entire five-plus year history at the Boogaloo! It was a very busy night for us but a great atmosphere, and thanks to everyone who joined us. Special mention to the two teams who correctly guessed Black Light, the name of Snake Plisken's special forces unit briefly mentioned in Escape From New York, and officially the evening's hardest question. And so glad you liked the Linda Hamilton question.

Also thanks go to Matt for the Vue tickets and Paul from Arcane Projects for the 80s movie inspired T-shirts. Check out their website for more cool designs.

As I explained on Wednesday, unfortunately there was no way we could put an October quiz together before Lee-Jay had to go abroad with work. So there will be no Boogaloo quiz next month. We will be back with our annual horror movie special on Wednesday 3rd November. Hope to see you all there.

30th August 2010

Apologies for the late report for August's Boogaloo quiz, but the two of us have been on our respective holidays. In fact I was only back last night and then today (Sunday) it was straight to Leicester Square and the Empire Cinema Screen 1 to run the FrightFest Quiz from Hell, but more on that later!

August saw yet another close-fought contest, with the ultimate winner being decided by a single point. For all the team scores and winners pics from the night click here.

Our next Boogaloo quiz is the annual 80s movie special. And it takes place on Wednesday 8th September. As well as 80s movie soundtracks and a very special guest question from one of the stars of one of the greatest sci-fi movie of that decade, we have a Kevin Bacon/Chris Penn observation clip (work out the film, it's not that difficult!), themed trivia round on Buddy Movie partnerships, and we welcome the return of another ridiculously tricky Fill in the Blanks picture round. This one's always a popular night, more so than usual, so do try and get there early if you can!

See you next week!

24th July 2010

Well, our blockbuster quiz ended up coinciding with the Soccerball Cup semi final so there was actually room to move in The Boogaloo. Thanks to all those who chose us over the football!

The results and winners pics from the close-run contest can be found here. And after the technical nightmare on the night a word of advice for any Mac users out there: don't let Software Update upgrade you to 10.6.4 if you plan on using the DVD Player...

Our next quiz is a usual mix of everything and takes place on Wednesday 4th August. We hope to see you there.

30th June 2010

It's taken us a while but finally, here are the scores for June's film quiz at the Boogaloo. You've definitely all been revising the trailers but it's good to see we can still test you on the picture round of Grim Reapers, not a single fan of Six String Samurai?!! Congratulations to Metro(Sexual)Dome who restored their position at the top of the leaderboard after last month's shock defeat to newcomers Two Men Enter, One Man Turns Up Late. Second and third (and fourth!) place were ultimately decided by an unprecedented three-way tie-breaker. To remind yourself how you fared, and for a complete list of the scores for all the teams that took part in June's quiz, click here.

Oh and BIG thanks to Matt at Vue for the cinema tickets, AND to every one who came up to us at the end of the quiz to say how much they enjoyed it. As you can probably appreciate, it takes a ridiculous amount of time and effort (and most importantly love) to put each month's quiz together, so it means a lot to us to get such great feedback on the night.

Now enough of the soppy shit, when's the next quiz you're probably wondering! Well the next Boogaloo quiz falls on Wednesday July 7th, and it's the return of the Summer Blockbuster Special.

I don't wanna spoil it for you, but rest assured, by the time the quiz is over, you get the girl, you kill the bad guys, and you save the entire planet...

Now you tell me. Isn't that worth a measley three hundred pence?!!!

See you next Wednesday!

21st May 2010

Big thanks to everyone who joined us at the Boogaloo for our fifth Birthday Quiz. There seemed to be a lot of appreciation for Simon Bates and the Arnie one-liners, I'm sure they will make a return in the future. In the end it was close-fought battle that ultimately saw The Analrapists in Coalition with the Chinese win a tie-breaker (by scoring higher on the incredibly difficult birthday bonus picture round). You can find a list of the scores for all the teams that took part and pictures of the winners here.

Thanks again to Mark at Odeon for the Premiere Seat tickets that were quickly nabbed as first prize. And thanks also to Gerry, landlord of the Boogaloo pub, for the extra bottle of wine bonus prize.

Next Boogaloo quiz will be Wednesday June 9th, and again we'll be aiming for a 7.30-for-8pm start, only this time we'll make sure we have the blackout blinds up to hide the glorious summer evening outside!

30th April 2010

Well that was an interesting month. To all those who came to the unexpectedly rescheduled quiz with faulty projector, thank you for your patience! The results are now up.

Special thanks to Chloe at the Prince Charles Cinema who has been providing us with prize tickets for the past months. We thank then cinema for its support and urge you all to check them out after their amazing refurbishment.

But fear not, cinema ticket lovers, as the nice folks at Odeon (Muswell Hill & Holloway) have given us Premiere Seat tickets as a birthday present.

A birthday present, you say? Yes, for we'll (both) be back with you on the second Wednesday of May - this time a planned reschedule! - with our fifth birthday quiz.

See you there!

8th April 2010

We hope most of you got the emergency mailshot (or Facebook/Twitter updates) yesterday in time to avoid going to the Boogaloo. Unfortunately they decided to schedule a book launch event on the night of the quiz... without telling us. We only found out by looking at the pub events listings yesterday morning!

The quiz has now been rescheduled for next Wednesday (14th). On behalf of the Boogaloo we want to apologise for the cock up and we hope to see you next Wedensday.

13th March 2010

Apologies for the slight delay in this month's post-quiz update. We've good reason: Our resident Big Lebowski fanboy and one half of the Bigger Boat quiz machine Lee-Jay is now a daddy!

Another great Boogaloo turnout and another victory for The Analrapists, who are fast becoming THE team to beat (it's pronounced Uh-Nal-Rappists, and it's from Arrested Development). Pictures of them, and the other winners, as well as all the scores from the night can be found here.

If you missed the Boogaloo March quiz there's a second screening next Tuesday at Upstairs at the Ritzy in Brixton. More details here.

Next Boogaloo quiz is Wednesday 7th April and sees the return of our Cult Film Special. There's no firm definition of what constitutes a 'cult film' so we've been quite flexible in what we've included! If you follow us on Twitter, or Facebook, or if you've signed up to our mailing list, you can expect the usual clues and hints to follow nearer the time.

See you on the 7th!

10th February 2010

Big thanks to everyone who joined us for the February quiz last Wednesday. With 24 teams battling out it was one of our busiest months ever! And we're glad you appreciated our Half-Naked Hugh Jackman round, that guy really must have a clause in his contracts AGAINST appearing fully clothed. We really appreciate everyone who makes the effort to come up to us afterwards to tell us how much they enjoyed the evening, thanks guys! Winners pics and scores for everyone who took part can be found here.

We're ahead of the curve this month and March quiz is already in the bag. We'll give you some clues in the mailshot just before the quiz. For our Boogaloo audience, the next quiz date for your diaries is Wednesday 3rd March. But remember, if you miss the Boogaloo quizzes you can always catch us later in the month Upstairs at the Ritzy.

Whichever quiz you come to, we hope to see you soon!

30th January 2010

Sorry for the delay in updating the site with last month's scores. It's been a hectic month for us with lots of private events to run. But January's winner pics and scores for all the teams that took part can now be found here.

The February quiz is now ready and we've got some cracking questions for you. In the way of clues, you can count on soundtracks from 90s films, and, as a treat for the ladies (and possibly some discerning gentlemen), there will be a very special guest star appearance from Hugh Jackman. And since the Boogaloo February quiz falls on the 3rd this year, if you can work out the significance of the day before, you might have a clue as to what this month's 'counter' question will be.

Look forward to seeing you all at the Boogaloo on Wednesday!

6th January 2010

The snow is coming down quite heavily now in Highgate and, while the tube is running ok at the moment, we're concerned that it might not be running so well later and that people who have a way to go to get home after might find themselves in a pickle. And while there are worse places to be stuck than in the Boogaloo eating hot nuts and debating the wisdom of appointing Sam Mendes as director of the next Bond movie, we agreed that it would be sensible under the circumstances to reschedule.

So unfortunately we're gonna have to postpone tonight's quiz and instead we'll be running it on MONDAY 18th JANUARY, that's in just under 2 week's time. So plenty more time for you to revise those Russell Crowe films ;-)

3rd January 2010

HAPPY NEW YEAR! We hope you all had thoroughly festive festive breaks and are looking forward to another year of quizzing. The eagle-eyed among you may notice a slight change to the website: the big Bigger Boat Brixton button on the left. If you click on it, you'll find out how we are responding to all those cries of 'You're Gonna Need a Bigger Pub!' at The Boogaloo...

We hope to see you at one of the two showings of the first You're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat of 2010.

13th December 2009

Big thanks to everyone who joined us on Wednesday for our final quiz of 2009. What better way to celebrate the festive season than with a three-minute montage of carpet F-bombing courtesy of In The Loop's Malcolm Tucker. To find your team's score and position in the night's rankings (and for pics of all the winners) click here.

We wish you all a fantastic Christmas and New Year and look forward to seeing you again for the first quiz of 2010 on Wednesday 6th January.

2nd November 2009

Thanks to everyone who took part in last week's Halloween horror movie special; what an enthusiastic bunch you are.

The best part for us was watching everyone's facial expressions during the What Happens Next clips round, especially the eye-piercing scene from Zombie Flesh Eaters, a veritable classic!

Another sterling effort from Metro(Sexual)Dome saw them grab a conclusive blood-splattered victory, even without their lucky Chucky doll mascot. Click here to see them and the rest of the night's winners and a full list of all the teams who took part.

Our next quiz is on THURSDAY December 10th, when we'll be bringing you a review of the year's films, plus some Christmas-themed picture rounds. As it's a Thursday we'll have a late bar, so we do hope you'll be able to join us for a drink afterwards.

Hope to see you at the Boogaloo for our last quiz of 2009!

13th October 2009

Well, there were slightly fewer players this month but it was still very busy indeed. We're glad you seemed to enjoy having Steve Martin as a guest star... and enjoyed 57 seconds of vomit!

Well done to Metro(sexual)Dome who returned to glory with a very firm 89%! They dropped only two points on the second half, which is very impressive indeed. The results and winners' pics can be found here.

October was the last of our 'regular' quizzes for this year. Next up is our Halloween Horror Special; which we traditionally have before Halloween, in this case on Wednesday 28th October.

6th September 2009

Another quiz, another great crowd. A lot of high scores and all very close together made us worry we’d made it a little too easy for you guys but thankfully we were still able to throw most of you with quite a few of our trickier questions. You can see all the final scores and pics of our top three teams here.

Congratulations to those teams who managed to correctly identify Charlie Sheen’s ghostly motor from The Wraith on our 80s Cars picture round and at least one team that knew the INXS track was from Crocodile Dundee. And for those of you who still refuse to believe that 2 Live Crew’s Yakety Yak appeared in only one film – Twins – have a look here!

The next quiz will be Wednesday 7th October. If you haven’t already done so, why not take a look at our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter to get your pre-quiz clues each month.

6th August 2009

Blimey, and we thought July quiz was busy!

Massive thanks to the record 33 teams that packed out The Boogaloo last night (we’ll definitely print off more than 30 picture rounds next month). Despite a slight confusion in the STOP round over two prison films adapted from Stephen King books by Frank Darabont (I’m blaming the heat) I reckon it went off without a hitch. And great to see yet more new teams joining us, including The Pinheads, who managed second place on their first attempt, fantastic! We hope you all enjoyed yourselves. Final scores and winners’ pics are here.

Hope to see you all again next month (Wednesday 2nd September) for our annual 80s movie special, clues to follow a bit nearer the time.

19th July 2009

In a word - wow! Big thanks to everyone who was part of Wednesday's fantastic crowd, and great to see so many new faces. Our Fill in the Blanks picture round proved to be one of the trickiest yet, and we're glad you enjoyed our Rambo onscreen deaths montage - you lot are a bunch of sick puppies!

We know at the moment quite a few of you have to rush off at the end of the night to get home, so with this in mind - and seeing as the new advance purchase tokens were a fantastic success at speedy things up at the start - we're going to try and bring the start time forward a bit. The posters will now say 8PM START which means we'll begin collecting quiz tokens and giving out answer sheets at 8 o'clock and we'll run the onscreen intro as soon as we're ready to go. Hopefully those of you who do have rather far to go to get home will be able to hang out with us a little longer after the quiz has finished.

We're back to the first Wednesday of the month with our August quiz falling on the 5th. It's the usual mixed-bag of movies, no particular theme this time, and hints and clues will follow in our mailshots and Facebook invites. See you there!

27th June 2009

We’ve managed to hold off any price rises for over two years now but from next month quiz entry will be £2.50. It’s not really a case of “you’re gonna need a bigger wallet”; we think it’s a fair reflection of what we do (and hopefully you agree!).

To coincide with new price, next month (July 15th) will see a couple of other changes as well as the quiz is our annual Summer Blockbuster special, with more explosions, car-chases and cheesy one-liners than you can shake a Michael Bay-shaped stick at.

We have some awesome prizes for you, including a gigantic Hellboy figure for one lucky team to take away, plus from July onwards we'll be adding in two extra STOP! round prizes, meaning four people now get a chance to walk away with a prize... even if they can't win the main quiz.

Also from July quiz onwards you will be able to buy your quiz entry from the bar at your leisure while waiting for the quiz to start...

ticket

So when you get your drinks in, ask for your quiz tokens. This means no more having to save your change for us (or us hunting for change for you) and it should speed things up when we come round with the answers sheets. We’ll simply collect tokens from those of you who’ve already paid and then accept the money off those who haven’t. Simples!

See you on the 15th...

4th June 2009

Thank you for the enthusaistic crowd at tonight's Disney•Pixar special - we had hoped to shake up the rankings, but we were pleased to find the quiz at least buoyed spiritis... and dirty humour! The results and winners' pictures can be found here.

To incorporate our summer holidays, the next quiz will be slightly later than planned on Wednesday 15th July and will be our most popular event of the quiz year: our Summer Blockbuster Spectacular.

31st May 2009

Hope you're enjoying the sun this weekend. We're looking forward to testing your knowledge of Disney and Pixar next week. In the meantime, we've given the website a little spring clean and we've also added (count 'em!) four new online picture rounds for you to have a go at, which can be found by clicking here. We're aiming to try and update these every month or two, so keep an eye out. And see you next Wednesday!

11th May 2009

Great to see so many of you at our birthday quiz last Wednesday; always good to have a nice big enthusiastic crowd! Well done to our three highest-scoring teams. For a list of all the final scores and the winners' pics (including winners of our special birthday bonus champagne) click here.

We're back at the Boogaloo on Wednesday 3rd June with a Disney/Pixar themed special - all your favourite sidekicks, princesses, songs, and surprisingly gruesome death scenes! Hope to see you there!

Thank you to those who managed to make it up to Highgate in spite of the G20 protests. It was great to be back after our forced absence last month. The results and pictures of the winners can be found here.

The next quiz will be on Wednesday 6th May and will see us entering our sixth year of hosting the quiz. We'll be marking our birthday with some bonus questions about you lot (with a prize attached, naturally) along with an extra STOP! round and some more surprises. We'll hope you'll come along and wish us 'Happy Birthday!'

The March quiz will be the quiz that never was. It's a terrible shame, but these things happen. Metro(sexual)Dome don't need to worry, though, this doesn't mean their bid for the record winning streak has been interrupted. We will be back on Wednesday 1st April (there isn't snow forecast!) and we hope to see you all then.

2nd March 2009

We're very sorry to say that we have no choice but to cancel this Wednesday's You're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat. The snow storms that hit the Eastern US last night mean I am currently in a New York hotel with no idea when I'll be getting back to Blighty... and while all the quiz content has been generated, there now isn't time to do the 'magic' in putting it all together.

This is the first time we've ever had to cancel a quiz and we're very annoyed! We hope you aren't too disappointed and we will be back on Wednesday 1st April.

8th February 2009

It was a cold night, but a warm crowd and February's quiz seemed to be enjoyed by one and all. Metro(sexual)Dome continued their winning streak and took first place again. That's three in a row for them now. We seem to recall their longest run (so far) was four in a row a couple of years back. Can anyone stop them? Full results from February's quiz are here.

We'll be back on Wednesday 4th March and we hope to see you all then.

20th January 2009

Happy New Year one and all! We were delighted to see so many of you braving the cold weather and empty bank accounts to join us for the first quiz of 2009. We were also delighted to see four or five teams enjoying their first ever quiz - we hope you'll be back for more!

In spite of the very difficult Soundtracks round, it was a close-run race with the top teams changing position between half time and full time. In the end, it was old favourites Metro(sexual)Dome who went home with the free tickets to the (recently refurbished and even more fabulous) Prince Charles cinema. A full list of winners is here.

We'll be back on Wednesday 4th February with another great quiz. We hope you'll join us to continue the great atmosphere from January.

15th December 2008

Thanks to everyone who joined us last Wednesday for our last quiz of 2008, and what a closely-fought contest it turned out to be (click here for results and winners photos). It was especially great to see quite so many new teams - special mention must go to first-timers Edward Quizzorhands who managed an impressive 3rd place and walked away with a bottle of champage for their efforts.

We hope you have a fantastic Christmas and New Year and to give you chance to recover the January quiz will be a week later than usual, on Wednesday 14th January. See you in 2009!

2nd November 2008

Great that so many of you braved a cold Wednesday night to come and join us for our Halloween horror movie special and thanks for all the appreciation of our gory efforts on the night. Nice to see one or two people watching from between their fingers! Special mention to the guys from The Warriors who I think stayed in costume all evening. Sadly it wasn't enough to repeat last month's victory, which this time went to Herschell Gordon Lewis fans Quizards of Gore with their rather worrying knowledge of ripped-in-half bodies and masked murderers. Click here to see them and the rest of the night's winners and a full list of all the teams that took part. You all did far better than we expected on the masked killers picture round, but thankfully no one quite got full marks, which is the way it should be!

The next quiz is on Wednesday 3rd December and will be bringing you a review of the past year's movie offerings, plus some Christmas-themed picture rounds. We look forward to seeing you at the Boogaloo for our last quiz of 2008!

2nd October 2008

Last night's 80s movie special saw another full house at The Boogaloo, and one of our toughest quizzes yet. Huge thanks to everyone who took part. Only one team, The New Warriors, managed to correctly identify John Barry's theme from the time-travelling weepie Somewhere in Time, and it's that kind of encyclopaedic knowledge that saw them eventually romp home to a resounding victory. Click here to see them looking smug with their set of very cool '80s-inspired T-shirts (as worn in Caddyshack, Karate Kid and Ferris Bueller), courtesy of our friends at MovieTees, along with the rest of the night's winners and the full list of scores.

Next up is our Halloween horror special, which this year falls on Wednesday 29th October. Work is already well underway on what is always a very popular (and bloody) evening. Remember, stick to the roads... and beware the moon!

13th September 2008

We're somewhat sad to say that the landlord of The Boogaloo has decided that another DJ night is more of a winner than a film screening night, so The Big Picture Show is to be put to rest after a mere two screenings. It's a terrible shame as we'd jst started to get shorts submitted from you guys. However, while the regular event of The Big Picture Show is over, we think we should find a night or two, as the days get shorter, where we can screen a number of your submissions. We'll keep you posted, but in the meantime, if you're a budding film maker, please get in touch.

7th September 2008

Thanks to everyone who contributed to another fantastic (and enthusiastic) turnout on Wednesday night. We're certain it's been a while since Bruce Willis (playing Harry Stamper in Armageddon) got such rousing applause. And nice to see a few brand new teams doing so well. But not a single ten out of ten on the pyramids picture round - which is just the way we like it!

Click here to see the night's winners and the full scoreboard. And thanks to the Prince Charles Cinema for the free tickets - make sure you check out the fantastic double bill lineup they've got coming.

Wednesday 1st October sees the return of our popular '80s movie special and another fiendishly difficult Fill In The Blanks picture round. See you there!

1st August 2008

Last night's Blockbuster Special quiz saw a great turnout with a fantastically noisy crowd! We said it was going to be easy, but the results were well spread out as usual. Take a look here to view them along with pictures of the winning teams.

We'll be back on Wednesday 3rd September for out last 'normal mixed bag' quiz of the year before we start out string of specials towards the end of the year. We hope the see you then. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of the summer.

5th July 2008

Well, Wednesday's quiz seemed to be a little harder than normal. Although we were surprised you couldn't work out that Will Ferrell talking about 'new' fondue was Semi-Pro! The results and pictures can be found here. Next month's quiz will probably be a little easier as it's our crowd-pleasing BLOCKBUSTER SPECIAL. Action, explosions, car chases and cheesy dialogue... perfect for summer.

However, as we're following the rest of Europe and shutting down for the month of August, the quiz will be a few days early on Thursday 31st July. To make sure you don't forget, and to make sure you receive our hints, make sure you sign up for our mailshots.

5th June 2008

Thank you all for coming to last night's quiz in spite of it actually being a sunny evening for a change! The results and winners pictures can be found here. One thing we've noticed is that what really boosts the top teams into their podium positions is a great score on the trailers round. Along with making sure you receive our mailshot, the best way to boost your chances each month is to spend a few minutes browsing through the Apple trailers page.... as it's where we get our material!

We're back with another You're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat on Wednesday 2nd July. However, we'll also be back at the Boogaloo on Monday 23rd June with a new event: The Big Picture Show. This event is all about just kicking back and watching a few shorts followed by a feature film, voted for by you from a shortlist each month. More details can be found by following The Big Picture... link on the left.

11th May 2008

We were hoping that the Cult Films Special would shake up the rankings a little... and we weren't disappointed. Though, to be fair, the team everyone loves to hate, Metro(sexual)Dome, were missing their key player. The results and winners pictures can be found here.

We weren't quite sure what the Channel 4 film crew wanted with all of you (we had 24 hours notice!) but thanks for putting up with them. If only they'd been looking for film geniuses...

We're back at The Boogaloo on Wednesday 4th June with one of our regular mixed-bag quizzes, which will actually see us entering our fourth year of running the quiz! And after three full years we've finally taken the plunge and invested in something to help on those busier-than-normal evenings... a set of clipboards - no more writing on the walls for our guests! All we ask is that you don't walk off with them at the end of the night as they cost a lot more than those pens!

3rd April 2008

Last night's quiz was a lot less frantic that the March quiz with a comfortable 20 teams taking part. The results and winners pictures can be found here.

We're back at The Boogaloo in five weeks' time on Wednesday 7th May, when we'll be bringing you a Cult Films Special. You know, those films that did pretty poorly at the box office, but now everyone quotes as a classic... for good or bad reasons. We also have a few more specials planned for the year - just keep an eye on the Coming Soon page for details...

8th March 2008

Wednesday's quiz was a great success. It was very very busy with 30 teams, but the atmosphere was great and we certainly enjoyed ourselves. The results and winners pictures can be found here. Almost everyone scored at least half marks, with all the teams very close to one another - which also makes things interesting when it comes to seeing change in places at the end of the first and second halves.

We'll be back again on Wednesday 2nd April with the next installment of You're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat. In the meantime, should you fancy taking part in an '80s Entertainment Quiz (film, TV and music) in aid of International Alert, we'll be at Bangers, Moorgate at 7pm on Tuesday 11th March running a charity quiz. Bring a team and see what you can do!

Happy New Year! January's quiz was a relatively quiet start to the year - everyone managed to get a seat! But that didn't mean it was any easier than usual. The results and winners pictures can be found here.

Unfortunately, Lee-Jay's away with work the first week in February, so we're having to put the quiz back to Wednesday 13th February. And there's an England match on too, so that'll suit you footie fans.

We hope to see you all on Wednesday 13th!

22nd December 2007

We've finished putting together the quiz for January and will send you a few clues a couple of days before if you sign up to our mailshots. But to keep you going until next year, we've also uploaded two more online picture rounds, including an expanded Christmas round.

10th December 2007

And so another quiz year draws to a close. We hope you all enjoyed last Wednesday's quiz, which proved to be harder than most people thought! The results and winners' pictures can be found here.

We hope you all have a good break, and we'll see you all in the new year... with the first quiz a week later than usual to give us all a chance to recover from New Year's Eve.

See you on Wednesday 9th January.

6th November 2007

This year's Halloween horror quiz saw the winning team score the highest mark we've ever seen in the regular quiz - dropping just three-and-a-half marks. In addition, most teams managed to get at least half marks, so it can't have been too difficult. Results and winners' pictures can be found here.

The next quiz will be on Wednesday 5th December, out last quiz of 2007. It will feature a couple of Christmas-themed rounds, but will otherwise be a review of all the films that have been released since the end-of-2006 quiz...

8th October 2007

Last week's '80s special saw an amazing 30 teams fighting for glory. In the end, a crafty alliance between the Lord of the Chick Flicks girls and the boys of The Warriors saw them storm into first place. We were also surprised and delighted to see a new team, Kelly's Heroes come in a close second... hopefully they'll be back for more. Results and winners' pictures can be found here.

The next quiz will take place a week earlier than usual... as it's Halloween. We'll be following on from previous years with a Horror Special to mark the occassion. Along with the gore expect some scary thrillers and the odd well-it's-meant-to-be-scary film (Tremors anyone?).

29th September 2007

Next week's '80s-themed quiz is in the bag, so in the meantime we've given the website a bit of a tidy-up. we've reorganised our old quiz night results pages (archiving all the scoreboards and winners' photos) and updated our sample questions with poster, soundtrack and trailer rounds, as well as lots of trivia questions, from past quiz nights.

More importantly, we've added some new online picture quizzes for you to play, which are accessed through the menu bar on the left by choosing Play Online. Regular quiz-goers might recognise the titles of the first four (Aliens, Liberty, Monkeys and Robots) from past picture rounds but we've expanded these with lots more new pics. For example, our robots quiz now features over 50 cinematic cyborgs for you to identify. Perfect for those slow days at work!

We hope to try and add new online picture rounds at regular intervals so watch this space.

7th September 2007

Big thank you to everyone who joined us for last night's quiz - the results and pictures are here. The Instant Win questions we introduced at August's Blockbuster special seems to be working ok so hopefully we can add a couple of these to each quiz night.

The soundtrack round seemed to have a lot of you stumped. No excuses for not getting the song from Toy Story but we'll let you off Ennio Morricone's theme from Orca: Killer Whale!

As we mentioned, next month sees the return of the '80s movie special, so break out the eye-liner and spangly gloves, rev up the DeLorean and get yourselves down to The Boogaloo on October 3rd for a hefty dose of John Hughes, Chevy Chase, Arnie in his heyday, Brat Pack and Wang Chung.

3rd August 2007

We hope you all enjoyed the Summer Blockbuster Special on Wednesday. In spite of the glorious sunshine The Boogaloo was packed as usual... and every team managed to get at least half the answers right, so you all did very well indeed. The results and winners' pictures can be found here.

We'll be back in just over five weeks' time with the September quiz, which will take place a day later than planned on THURSDAY 6th September. For those of you on our mailing list, clues will arrive just before the quiz.

24th July 2007

We're getting very excited about next week's summer blockbuster-themed quiz. The questions are finished and we've got a bumper stack of prizes to give away, including a very cool Optimus Prime voice changer mask/helmet thingy from the new Transformers movie, an 18-inch talking Jack Sparrow figure, and some DVDs along with the usual bottle of champagne.

And as we mentioned in the last update, as well the prizes for the three top-scoring teams, we've got some other goodies to give away during our Instant Win questions. We read out a list of clues describing a film or an actor and if you think you know the answer you shout out "stop!". If you're right you win a prize, if you're wrong we continue the clues until someone does get it… the catch is, once you've had a go you can't answer again. We'll have to see whether this idea works in the pretty crowded Boogaloo but we're looking forward to trying it, and if it does work hopefully we can incorporate it into our regular quiz format.

Hope to see you on the 1st!

7th July 2007

Good to see the smoking ban didn't have any effect on turnout, with twenty-six teams battling it out at July's quiz. The results and winners can be found here.

For August's quiz, we're stepping away from the usual fare to bring you our Summer Blockbuster Special. No foreign language films, no black and white films, just pure unadulterated mainstream spectacle... plus a few chick flicks. Expect superheroes, disaster movies, sequels and, most importantly, lots of explosions.

And from August onwards we'll be introducing a number of changes. In addition to adding 50p to the entry fee, we're gonna try out some Instant Win questions (those of you who came to our charity quiz last year might remember the 'Stop!' questions) where you can win a prize on the spot. There will also be a booby prize for last place and something more substantial for second place.

Hopefully this will give teams that don't usually get in the top three a chance to go home with something... other than a hangover and bruises from kicking themselves during the answers to the music round!

13th June 2007

June's results and winners' pictures are now up.

11th June 2007

Last month's movie quiz - quite possibly our most difficult yet - saw another full house at the Boogaloo (scores and pics will be up shortly). Congratulations to those teams who knew that Queen Gedren was from Red Sonja (close but no cigar to the teams who put down Conan the Barbarian, Gedren was played by the lovely Sandahl Bergman who played Arnie's squeeze Valeria in Conan).

Speaking of no cigars, the July quiz will see the first quiz after the smoking ban comes into force on July 1st. Will be interesting to see what effect, whether positive or negative, this will have on turnout at next month's quiz. But fear not, there will be plenty of opportunity for those of you addicted to the evil weed to indulge your habit during the marking periods at the interval and after the 2nd half!

See you all on July 4th!

5th May 2007

Despite the glorious May evening, we had 27 teams packed into the Boogaloo for last night's quiz. We were so rushed off our feet we completely forgot to mention it was our 2nd Birthday quiz. So a big thanks to everyone who helped make last night a lot of fun, especially to our fantastic regulars. Speaking of which, the night saw another victory for The All-Day Breakfast Club, who seemed very happy to take home the Darth Vader voice changer helmet. Photos of the top three prize-winning teams and scores for all the teams can be found here.

Well done to the few teams who correctly identified the screenshot from Zombie Flesh Eaters in our Give Me Liberty picture round (shots from films featuring the Statue of Liberty), officially the hardest question in this month's quiz.

Writing is already underway on next month's quiz, which will take place on June 6th (D-Day, I believe), same place, same time. And to celebrate the coming summer, here's our Little Miss Sunshine-inspired poster...

6th April 2007

The results from Wednesday's quiz are now up. It's good to see another team in the top three!

The next quiz will be on Wednesday 2nd May and will see us enter our third year as hosts of You're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat. If you're lucky, we might repeat last year's birthday quiz and bring cake...

12th March 2007

Last Wednesday's quiz saw The All-Day Breakfast Club... go for a record four first-place wins in a row, only to be pipped at the post by Metro(sexual)Dome, the only other team to equal their three consecutive wins.

Despite our promise to toughen things up, the Oscar theme sadly helped make this one of the easiest quizzes in Bigger Boat history, with the winners dropping a mere 3 marks overall. Never again!

8th February 2007

Well despite announcing early on it was our easiest quiz so far, we were quickly proved wrong by the fantastic Wednesday night crowd (a record 31 teams!). The soundtrack round in particular seemed to stump most of you (congratulations to the one team that correctly identified the music from cult '80s movie Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension!), though I was disappointed that at least two teams scored full marks on the Alien Nation picture round. The next one will be tougher I promise...

The next film quiz is on Wednesday 7th March and it's an Oscar Special, to mark the 79th Academy Awards happening later this month, so get swotting up on your Oscar-winning movies.

14th January 2007

Happy New Year, Quizzers!

The first quiz of the year was a great success (small marking error aside), with players coming from as far away as California to take part. The Last Mimzy in the trailer round seemed to stump everyone. But, surprisingly, many teams did very well on the To Play The King picture round, even though we thought it our hardest picture round yet.

The next quiz is on Wednesday 7th February. See you then!

8th December 2006

And so another quiz year draws to a close. The results for the Christmas Quiz are now up. The three top teams were all just half a point apart from each other - we've never had such a close run quiz! And the winners were a brand new team who stormed straight to the top in their first quiz.

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Speaking of which, the January film quiz will be a week later than planned (to give people time to recover from New Year's Eve) on Wednesday 10th January. See you all then!

4th December 2006

The Bond quiz was a great success - we hope all those who came had a fantastic time. The results and winner pictures are now up and more pics will appear in the Gallery soon.

See you all this Wednesday for the Christmas quiz at the Boogaloo.

8th November 2006

All tickets to the Bond quiz have now been sold. For those who managed to get some, "See you on the 20th!"

...and we hope to see the rest of you at the next Boogaloo film quiz on Wednesday 6th December.

7th November 2006

Apologies for the delay - the results and pictures for the Halloween Horror Special are now online here.

We're down to a dozen unsold tickets for the Bond event, so if you want to take part, get in quick!

1st November 2006

We hope you all enjoyed the Halloween Horror Special last night. Results and winners pics will be a bit delayed, but will appear some time next week...

Tickets to the Leicester Square You're Gonna Need a Bigger BOND quiz on Monday 20th November are selling fast. To get your hands on tickets and to find out more select Bond Quiz from the menu on the left.

7th October 2006

The results and winners pictures from Wednesday's quiz are now up. The next quiz will be taking place a day earlier than normal as it's going to be an all-horror Halloween special... so we're holding it on Halloween!

1st October 2006

We hope you're looking forward to Wednesday's quiz. In the meantime, we'd like to announce a very special event to coincide with the release of the new Bond film - Casino Royale.

On Monday 20th November, we return to Leicester Square for You're Gonna Need a Bigger BOND. To find out more, select Bond Quiz from the menu on the left.

13th September 2006

The results from last Wednesday's quiz are now online. Thanks to Ti and Johnny for giving us a break. We hope you enjoyed their quiz as much as we did.

On to the next quiz, which will be held on Wednesday 4th October. Remember to sign up for the mail updates to receive a few clues on the next quiz!

5th September 2006

We've been enjoying our month off and we're looking forward to taking part in tomorrow's quiz.

This month the prizes include a copy of The Movies game for the PC, along with the new Stunts and Effects expansion pack, from our friends at 6degreesfilm.com. There's also the traditional bottle of champers and a bundle of other bits and pieces.

11th August 2006

Due to work commitments, I'm afraid Simon and I are going to have to skip a month of quizzing. But fear not! September's quiz will be in the hands of two long-time regulars, Ti and Johnny.

While we won't be hosting this month, we will be there on the night to take part along with the rest of you. In the meantime, we hope to update some of our online content and add some more Excel quizzes for you to download and enjoy.

See you on September 6th!

4th August 2006

In a word: wow! Last Wednesday's Summer Blockbuster-themed quiz was an unprecented success. We still can't quite get over just how many people crammed into the Boogaloo to answer questions on such cinematic delights as Top Gun callsigns, superhero secret identities and "who is the tallest member of the Fellowship of the Ring?". There were so many people wanting to play, we had to run to the newsagents and photocopy more answer sheets!

The format change definitely shook up the rankings, pushing some of the regular high-scoring teams down the table. You guys clearly need to bone up on your chick flicks and musicals! Results and pictures are in the usual place.

And finally, a big thanks to the many individuals who came up to us at the end of what was a very hectic night to say how much they enjoyed themselves - we really appreciate the nice feedback.

28th July 2006

The writing of next Wednesday's blockbuster-themed quiz is well underway. In a change to the usual format, each round will cover a particular genre, from Historical Epics to SciFi & Fantasy, Action movies to Chick Flicks... definitely something for everyone.

In addition to the usual champagne, we've got blockbuster prizes including Lord of the Rings Trivial Pursuit DVD game, and from our good friends at www.6degreesfilm.com, a nice bundle of Superman goodies, including the DVD boxset of the original four movies, a T-shirt and the graphic novel adapt ion of the new movie, Superman Returns.

A reminder that the quiz now starts at 8.30pm, and that while all the tables in the pub will be reserved for quizzers, it's first come, first seated, so try and get there as early as possible to grab a good view.

See you on the 2nd!

30th June 2006

Well we like certainly like the new Boogaloo setup - especially the bright, crisp new projector! And with the new extra seats and general notices to keep out the riffraff, we were able to seat everyone comfortably - in spite of doing away with team table reservations. For us, no reservations and an earlier start time makes a world of difference, so we hope it works out well for you, too.

Results and winners pictures are in the usual place, and there are a couple of extra shots in the Gallery. So on to the next quiz...

As it'll be the height of summer, we're making the August You're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat a Blockbuster Special. Each round will focus on a different genre (Action & Thriller, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Comedy etc.) and all the questions will be on the biggest and best films in each category.

Put it in your diaries now!

26th June 2006

Hope you're looking forward to this Wednesday's quiz - I know we are. For the quiz, you might want to brush up your movie prisons, your X-men and superheros in general.

A little reminder that from now on the quiz will start at the slightly earlier time of 8.30pm. Hopefully this will mean all you quizzers with a long journey home won't have to rush to get last trains.

Also, there's no longer any need to reserve a table, as we're switching to a first-come-first-seated system - all tables will be up for grabs for people taking part in the quiz. And with the Boogaloo's recent refurbishment there's now room for even more... and round tables to help you view the screen!

See you Wednesday!

14th June 2006

Results and pics of the June quiz winners have been added. Select the page from the 2006 QUIZZES tab on the left or click here. We also took some extra pictures of the night, which can be found in the gallery section.

10th June 2006

PROJECTOR UPDATE: the fear of fifty IN-GURR-LAND fans starting a riot has forced the landlord of the Boogaloo to splash out on a brand-new, top-of-the-range projector. So we can assure you that we will be back with all quiz guns blazing on June 28th.

See you then!

9th June 2006

Thanks to everyone who joined us on Wednesday. Everyone was fantastically patient while we tried to fix the projector at half time, but it was beyond repair, forcing us to drop two entirely visual-based rounds from the second half.

Kudos to those who knew that Operation Grand Slam was the name of Goldfinger's plan to irradiate Fort Knox and that Billy Ocean's 'When the Going Gets Tough' was from Jewel in the Nile, NOT Romancing the Stone as many of you insisted (Eddie Grant did the title song to that movie). Winners pics and results will appear soon.

26th May 2006

The You're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat Film Quiz is London's best kept secret no longer! Offering a much-needed respite from the usual tales of knife murders, terrorist plots and Tube strikes, last Wednesday's edition of the capital's favourite muck-racking scaremongering rag, the Evening Standard, carried a great double-page spread on London's best pub quizzes and wouldn't you know it, featured a nice review of yours truly, even mentioning a couple of our regular teams, Crouch End Tiger and You've Got Mail (Genitalia). The full article is available via the Standard's online edition and we hope to have a scan of the paper up soon.

16th May 2006

We're pleased to announce that last night's Leicester Square special was a resounding success. Everything ran smoothly and we managed to raise just over £400 for Breakthrough.

In addition to a huge stack of goodies for the three top-scoring teams, including exclusive tickets to a preview of Poseidon at the IMAX, our new instant-win "Stop!" questions and three raffles meant there were plenty of prizes to go round - all thanks to our friends at www.6degreesfilm.com

Results and winners pictures are in the 2006 Quizzes section and there are some pics from the night in the Gallery section.

See you on the 7th of June for a regular Boogaloo quiz!

28th April 2006

Wow! Thanks to all those who have signed up for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer quiz. We have now allocated every ticket available. We're sorry that we couldn't fit any more in, but they wouldn't let us have the Millennium Dome!

27th April 2006

Thanks to all those who made it to our birthday quiz last night. We hope you all enjoyed the cake. Oh, and the quiz. The results and winners pictures are in the usual place.

The next Boogaloo Quiz will be on the 7th of June, but before then, together with our friends at 6degreesfilm , we are holding a special film quiz in Leicester Square to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

22nd April 2006

Next week's quiz is ready to go. A couple of hints: maybe swot up on your movie robots... and Sean Connery.

Also, 6degreesfilm have once again come with a few giveaways to supplement our own prizes. So we have the entire Batman movie series (all 2-disc special editions) and a poster signed by Liam Neeson for his movie Kinsey, which you can either frame or stick on eBay, we don't care!

We also have some King Kong goodies, including the PS2 game and our personal favourite, a talking drill instructor from Full Metal Jacket, complete with obscene catch phrases!

See you on the 26th!

6th April 2006

Many thanks to the Steven Seagal team for putting on yet another thoroughly entertaining quiz. The final scores and winners photos will appear in the Past Quiz Nights section in due course.

And on to the next quiz, which will be held a week earlier than normal on Wednesday 26th April. Reservations will open shortly...

4th March 2006

We hope you enjoyed Wednesday's quiz. Congratulations to two of our newer teams The 186ers and Captain Correli's Mangled Limb on their first ever wins. The final scores from the night and pictures of the winning teams can be found here.

The Steven Seagal team returns to the helm for the April quiz, which will be held on Wednesday 5th. And for this quiz, the good folks at 6degrees film will be donating an extra-special first prize in exchange for a few shameless plugs like this one.

2nd February 2006

Welcome to the new website! We're finally up and running and we hope you'll take time to familiarise yourself with the layout. As well as news on upcoming quizzes and pictures and results from quizzes past, you'll find a selection of questions on the site. We'll be adding to these as time goes by, both with questions from Quiz Night and questions written just for the web. Also make sure you check out the interactive Excel quizzes.

Many thanks to the Alan Smithee team for giving us last night's quiz. Once again it was great fun, and we're sad to say that there will be no more Alan Smithee quizzes. But we hope we'll still see them on Quiz Nights. Pictures of the winners can be found in the Past Quiz Nights section.

The March quiz is on St David's day, and so we're planning a Tom Jones special. Only kidding! Visit the forum to reserve your table.

12th January 2006

Happy New Year, everybody!

Thanks to all those who came to last night's quiz. One thing we've noticed is that the top scores are really starting to close up now - which means those top three places could all depend on just a couple of answers for you top-scoring teams... could make things interesting for the future!

And straight on to next month's quiz, when we are handing over the quiz reins once again to the Alan Smithee team who have promised us an anti-Valentine's Day special...

9th December 2005

Thanks a lot to the Steven Seagal team for giving us another splendid quiz this month. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves, I know we did!

We have decided to abandon trying to get the old forum back and have therefore started up a new one. We're afraid that you'll have to reregister to use it, but we thought that was better than being without a forum for any longer.

The January quiz will be on Wednesday 11th and reservations are now open (visit the new forum to grab yourself a table).

29th November 2005

We are currently having a problem with the forum. The current hosting company have shut it down! We are in the process of trying to move the old forum (hopefully intact) to a new host and it should be back up soon.

As part of the move, the address for the forum (along with the main site) will change, as we are now located at:

www.film-quiz.com

Rest assured, the December quiz is still happening!

27th October 2005

A big thank you to all those who came to last night's quiz. An all-horror Halloween special certainly jumbled up the final rankings. Check out the Past Quiz Nights section for pics of the top three teams.

The next quiz will be held on December 7th and will be brought to you by the Steven Seagal is Fat and Always Late... Fact! team. If you were at their previous quiz in July you might remember the fine collection of arses they displayed. Let's hope we get more for Christmas!

6th October 2005

Wow! Last night was our busiest quiz so far: 19 teams! Even one team writing on the fruit machine - that's dedication.

The Past Quiz Nights sections has been updated with pics of the winners as usual, but there's more. After answering lots of emails and posts about results, we've decided to post the final scores as well. They're converted into percentages so you can compare each month and see if you're impoving... or not.

The next quiz will be held a week earlier than usual, on Wednesday 26th October as it's a Halloween special. But don't worry, we've adopted a broad definition for "horror film" to try and make sure there's something for everyone. Hope to see you there!

11th September 2005

Thanks to all those who came along to the quiz last week. Every table in the pub was taken up by quizzers! It was good to see that plenty of new faces have become regulars - we hope you keep coming!

The Past Quiz Nights sections has now been updated with pics of September's glorious victors.

The next quiz will be on October 5th (poster below).

4th August 2005

Huge thanks to the Alan Smithee guest hosts for their great quiz last night. The "send off line" round was pure genius!

We're back for the September quiz, and here's the poster to get you in the mood.

7th July 2005

An excellent quiz from our Steven Seagal guest hosts last night. We hope they'll be back soon. And for August we're going to try out another set of guest hosts - the Alan Smithee team. They'll be bringing us an '80s spectacular.

We're predicting mindless action and bad haircuts. We can't wait! But in the meantime, here's their poster.

2nd June 2005

Thanks to everyone who came to last night's quiz. Hopefully we proved the first one wasn't just a fluke! And we're glad to see numbers are picking up.

The Arnie guest star question intro got another great response but from now on it'll be different guest stars for each quiz. Who will we choose...?

Winners pics are available under June 2005 in the Past Quiz Nights menu.

Well we're gonna take a break for July and hand over next month's quiz to the Steven Seagal is Fat and Always Late...Fact! team, who we hope will become regular guest hosts. Apparently we can look forward to plenty of nudity (...in their quiz). Let's hope it's not the Seagal himself.

6th May 2005

I'm glad to report that our first quiz went really well, without any technical hiccups, despite a move to our new DVD-based format. Thanks to everyone who came up to us after the show to say how much they enjoyed it, especially the new half-time picture round. And we certainly weren't expecting rounds of applause for our intros!

Check out the Past Quiz Nights section for pictures of the winners and their prizes. It was a lot of work, but we'll definitely be back next month. As proof, here's the League of Gentlemen-inspired poster for June.

11th April 2005

And so to the first of the next generation of Bigger Boat quizzes. Which, in spite of the poster, isn't a Star Wars special - it's just an excuse for a bad pun.

8th April 2005

After two great years, Paul and Stew have said goodbye to running the quiz. On behalf of all those who have enjoyed the first Wednesday of every month with them, I thank them and congratulate them for all their hard work. Well done guys.

But fear not, young quizzlings, for the Bigger Boat will live on!
